Hanneke Koonstra was born in the Netherlands and came to Canada as a young girl. She studied at the University of Toronto and taught Special Education and Art for many years until she had to take a leave for medical reasons. Since then she has joined several art groups and taken many art courses. Her main medium is watercolours but has been experimenting with oils and acrylics. She often paints florals inspired by her gardens or local scenes in the Uxbridge area. She also paints scenes from her travels to Europe where she still has family. She enjoys bright colours as depicted in her acrylic abstracts. Always willing to try new mediums but usually returns to her watercolours. She shows her work in her studio on the Durham West and Uxbridge Studio tours and is a member of the Oshawa Art Association and the Schoolhouse painters in Lemonville.
